I am not thinking of doing this but I see that there are eating plans that sell people lifetime memberships. Along with the sale, the message to me would be- there is just not enough hope that you would be able to do much with your eating on your own. There is not enough lifetime left to even attempt this. Your body will not be able tor return to its connection with hunger and fullness without being managed externally. Well, thankfully i have whatever is left of my life to be in charge of what I eat and heal any other needs of head and heart so that stomach can feel satisfied and head and heart find their nourishment too.
There is that fork in the road for all of us on this journey.
After being sent information on two provocative supplements for weight loss by interested people in the last week I am writing in defense of lifestyle and doing the work of self care with joy. I have learned more from keeping the work outs going and the healthy eating choices going amid life events, challenges and set backs that is of great value. The value of the focus, discipline, energy and training of my mind and getting to know myself is not something I would trade for any amount of fast pounds in weight loss. My body is designed for daily movement and daily real food and I am gratefully not interested in a pill or product to lose weight quickly and easily. I would be missing out on learning, practicing and wanting to take care of myself each day.
Mother Nature has all the large food manufacturers beat. She had them whipped before they started thinking of putting an extra bit of crunch into crunch or the creamy filling inside the somewhat subdued chocolate outerwear. What people don't realize is that there is food and there is what has been so aptly named by Michael Pollen, food-like substances. That is the larger picture. Mother Nature (without the help of Monsanto) has it all figured out, has it all down to a Science. We get the health benefits from all her products and they go perfectly with our human bodies for our bodies to thrive, to energize and to resist disease. That is ALOT of benefit and She does not need any long legal process to make those claims. Look for the foods without the labels. The label-less foods that contain hundreds of synergetic components and are real food that nurture and heal our bodies.
It is a bit tricky to remove ourselves from the diet mentality. Sometimes the provocative nature of someone else knowing how to make it happen, be it thinness, energy or vitality is just too irresistible to pass by. But does it take you out of YOU?
A non diet relationship with food evolves from listening to our own bodies' signals and caring enough to want to understand what they mean and somewhere along this process, trusting what we are hearing enough to respond. We don't have to think that much about it and if we are thinking too much about it, that is a good sign we are becoming more "out of body."
People generally appear to be very critical towards themselves when it comes to their own food choices. The bombardment of attention by public health sources, health professionals and nutritionists on the implications of our food choices has created a backlash of guilt and self doubt for so many. There is a great amount of morality in what we choose to eat. Becoming aware of our own self care at any time and not what others may think is the first step to being confident in our ability to care for ourselves wonderfully.
